There’s another version of the classic crime drama, Bonnie and Clyde. Learn more here…
History has glamorised the young crime-loving duo, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, and I shouldn’t be supporting violence and mayhem either, but there is something enduring about their story.
Maybe it’s the romance and a hope-for-a-better-life-amongst-the-misery that the story centres around. Or maybe it’s just the fab frocks worn by Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty in their 1967 film, directed by Arthur Penn, one of the first films of the “New Hollywood” era.
Theadora Van Runkle won an Oscar for her costume work – see some photos here:
The 2-year crime spree of the loved-up couple during the dire economic times of the Great Depression included armed robbery, murder, car theft and abduction. Not at all luscious, but some people saw them as modern day Robin Hood figures, rebelling against injustice during terrible poverty.
And their photos appearing in the paper was part of the changing media landscape, making them “celebrity criminals” and captivating the US nation.
